The post office on my route seriously complains that we drop too many pkgs on them every day. But it's the only volume that is growing in their system ...they say. They don't even have to buy license plates for their vehicles and still can't turn a profit. Our strike put them in the black for a couple of years but they couldn't maintain service as promised so people dumped them except for non priority shipments. DHL was a joke package delivery rival for a short time even with all of their huge assets. They went back to delivering export volume where they could possibly make some money (with subs like A. Austen) and concentrating on warehouse logistics. I don't begrudge people having compassion for the post office workers or that they try to sell something that doesn't quite mirror a quality tracking or efficient delivery system. I was in a business office today and heard the secretary ranting about how screwed up the post office delivery system is and evidently has been for several weeks there and that was just about their incoming mail. I cringe when I mail out a letter unless it's a bill payment that gets date stamped and I figure it'll hit the bank in 7-10 days. The post office helps me keep my interest coming in my checking account because they work for me by helping to delay payment from my account. Ups uses the post office like an escort service but there's no love involved in the relationship.
