Today I ran an AM shuttle to our local ramp. To nobody's surprise, the flight was late. What was a surprise was management getting on the PA system directing all handlers to take a mandatory 13/14 break until the aircraft got in.
Sorry, but that is Code 43 time, not free give-back time to FedEx. When I asked one of the handlers if this was typical, he said they did it every time there was a late flight. These are employees who are lucky to get 4 hours per shift, and Fred steals a free 30 minutes (or more) from them just because he can. If they were getting 6 hours or more, then a break would be required by the state.
When a flight is late, it is not the employee's problem. They showed-up for work at the appointed time, and should not be forced to go on break.
Just another way FedEx screws their employees at every opportunity.
