Are helpers optional this year?

Like how it started out as 15 days to flatten the curve to prevent hospital overcrowding. Then, when it was apparent that wasn't a concern, it became "we have to prevent deaths". Once death rates dropped, and admissions that a lot of deaths attributed to covid weren't caused by covid came out, it became "we need to lower cases and stamp out the virus no matter the cost". Then it became "there will be no going back to normal until a vaccine". Who changes their stories and to what ends?
Now there’s two vaccines that are 95% effective and we’re locking down again.

Now there’s two vaccines that are 95% effective and we’re locking down again.

I can almost understand the logic, the problem is that the premise is faulty. They look at the few places that seemingly have been able to contain the virus and keep deaths down. They feel the pressure to try to contain the virus until the vaccine is widely distributable. The media is highlighting those places to apparently show that if governments eliminate enough of our rights, they can save lives.

The attempts that have been made in the rest of the world have not had as good of results. It's not because they didn't crack down hard enough, it's because some people understand that they can't crack down hard enough. The half measures have already been too costly, and we have people begging for more.

There are so many, many problems with this thinking. Nova Scotia has only avoided bankrupting itself due to assistance from the Canadian national government bailing them out. No one depends on any exports from NS, but they couldn't function very long without importing. The same can be said of the other places, like NZ and Australia. Stipulating that the controls put in place by their respective governments to contain the virus have been the deciding factor in their outcomes, they would be killing themselves if the rest of the world took the same approach. No imports, equals not enough food, equals more dead than from covid.

There are already millions in poorer countries who have died because of the supply chain disruptions, particularly in getting medicine, as is. We are also poised for large scale famine in the near future. TB and other diseases, which have been mostly under control, outbreaks are happening because of the singular focus on covid. But a few countries have kept their death counts low, so that's all we will hear about from the forced narrative media.
