Homicidal ILLEGAL Loses Her Appeal Driver in fatal Cottonwood, Minn., school bus crash loses appeal By Frederick Melo The Minnesota Court of Appeals has upheld the prison sentence of Olga Franco, the Guatemalan national convicted of driving a minivan through a stop sign near rural Cottonwood, Minn., killing four children on a Lakeview School District bus and injuring 17 others. The February 2008 crash drew national attention, in part because of Franco’s immigration status. Franco, 26, initially identified herself as Alianiss Nunez Morales of Puerto Rico, but investigators quickly determined her true identity and found she was living and working in the country illegally. In August 2008, a Kandiyohi County jury found Franco guilty of all 24 charges, including four counts of criminal vehicular homicide, 17 counts of criminal vehicular operation, and three additional charges. The case was heard outside of Lyon County, where the crash occurred, in hopes of establishing an impartial jury. Franco is serving her 12 1/2-year prison sentence at a state prison in Shakopee.
