Big UPS customer Amazon leases its own fleet of 767 cargo jets Atlanta Business Chronicle

One of Atlanta-based United Parcel Service Inc.’s (NYSE: UPS) big retail customers - Amazon.com Inc. - will lease its own fleet of 767 cargo jets to move merchandise.

There has been a lot of talk that Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) might set up its own delivery service that would compete with UPS and FedEx.

Amazon says the new lease deal will compliment the company’s existing delivery network and ensure air cargo capacity to support one and two-day delivery for customers. Company officials also say the move is meant to reduce shipping costs.

Yea and they are also buying little vans to deliver small parcels. Amazon is leasing a fleet is key word. I’m sure they will try and learn that it’s more cost effective for ups and fed ex to deliver them with high fuel rates and insurance and not to mention the sizes of some of the Amazon packages. They would fit only 5 of them big boxes in a van I think they are going to just deliver groceries or use small vans and jets for the upcoming Same Day Delivery Service ??? Mabery that could be for prime members
