I actually prefer river fishing to lake fishing.  The DNR releases fish consumption guides for all the lakes and the Mississippi around here every year telling how safe the fish is to eat.  The river fish are always safer because the river cleans itself of contaminates like mercury where as in the lakes all that stuff just settles on the bottom. All the fish around here are safe to eat but the river fish are "safer". I also like the idea of you never know what you will hook in the river whereas with lakes you are always fishing walleye or panfish for the most part.  There has been everything from a 51 inch muskie, bass , walleye, northerns,  to blue channel cat caught by me. I used to fish the river a lot but not so much anymore.</blockquote>
