The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out... without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright maroon.
The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.
I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time.
Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods.
All government, of course, is against liberty.
A good politician is quite as unthinkable as an honest burglar.

Doesn't it suk when you discover something that throws a monkey wrench into your assumptions.
I give you some quotes of H. L. Mencken to ponder on when it comes to where I might begin to stand.
When you begin to grasp some of this along with the fact that I DETEST democrats/republicans along with partyarch liberals and conservatives all with whom I hold an equal contempt, then you just might be at a starting point to grasping what I might be all about.
Not sure there is a monkey wrench here. I'm just commenting on what I have seen in the short time I have been here. I don't mind that you are of the liberal persuasion , you do present yourself well. Sometimes to the degree I am struggling to keep up. I just don't think you should represent yourself as libertarian if you lean left. JMHO.
Just to be clear, the original article posted by @wkmac over 5 years ago was taken from Republican sources intent on taking down the Clinton Administration. It was originally published published in 1997, and reprinted in Sept 2001.
From the linked article:
The CRG does not necessarily share or endorse the conclusions of the document which emanates from the Republican Party.
And as much as I disagree in many cases with @oldngray on numerous issues, he does have you pegged correctly when you kneejerk about sources, not that they may be wrong but they are sources that just contradict your own narrative and your only criticism is who they are.
I think that one must look at all sides when discussing an issue. I did not dismiss your sourced, I pointed out that it was actually from the Republican party.
I just think that to truly understand an event, one should look at all sides and draw their own conclusions. This is a good, impartial starting point:

From there one can explore a number of avenues.
Twice in the last two decades, significant cuts in U.S. and western military spending were foreseen: first after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and then in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. But both times military spending soon increased, and among the factors contributing to the increase were America’s interventions in new areas: the Balkans in the 1990s, and Libya today.1 Hidden from public view in both cases was the extent to which al-Qaeda was a covert U.S. ally in both interventions, rather than its foe.
Perhaps you should have posted some background, since you posted the Republican opinion, which was very misleading as to the actual circumstances involved.I agree and maybe you should have just posted that link to begin with.
