Colorado, Washington Become First States to Legalize Recreational Pot! Saaaay WHAT!

I am amazed that I didn't hear about this at all, especially because I live in a state that borders Colorado (in the corner!) Tell me what you think....

Colorado's pot initiative passes; Same-sex measures on ballot in three states - National News | Examiner.com

What is your opinion on states passing recreational use of marijuana?

How will this work when Federal law says this ain't OK?

Will this have a domino affect on other states placing initiatives on the ballot or will the Feds weigh in?

Is this an indication that America is moving to the far left or is it ABOUT TIME? !!

The initiative is designed to tax pot. Will this help to minimize drug trafficking?

What impact will this have on the Cartels south of the border?

It's about time. The war on drugs, particularly on pot, is, and always has been an enormous failure of resources and lives.

This is the snail moving towards the eventual legalization of pot. Sooner or later people will realize how much more benign marijuana is than legal drugs, cigarettes, alcohol and pharmaceuticals. Millions and millions die from those three every year--all legal. No one--NO ONE-- died from marijuana. So which one of these four is illegal?

Yeah, that makes sense.

When I was a kid, I argued with my parents who thought it was a gateway drug. Well why is that? Back in the 60's, pushers were PUSHERS! Their goal was to get you hooked on dope anyway they could. Pot got a bad rap. I would argue that if it were legalized, you would eliminate the "gateway" affect. Of course today is not the same as that era but controlling it through legalization still makes sense to me.

Initiatives and propositions make this process so much easier than going through the legal system. Anyone who gets behind legalization will be demonized by their opponent. We are probably still a generation (or less) away from eliminating that stigma... again because of the initiative process.

The two busiest and growing businesses on my route are the hydroponics store (two guys and a grow shop) wink, wink, nod, nod, and the gun dealer.

I believe it will be like when the Indian casinos started opening. At first just a few states allowed it but now they are everywhere. Most states get some form of revenue out of them. At least the smart ones do. Minnesota isn't one of the smart ones. They don't get a penny from them.

It's all good :)

Legalization of marijuana, gay marriage, and a new bridge: Three U.S. ballot box propositions that affect Canada

The positive votes could also have consequences for Canada.
Former B.C. attorney general Geoff Plant says that without the border "excuse," Canadian politicos will feel the pressure, too.

"For a long time, one of the excuses that's been used for why we shouldn't do anything to change the law in Canada is that we can't get too far ahead of the Americans on this issue. If we were to legalize — so the argument goes — we would antagonize our relationship with law enforcement on the other side of the border," Plant told the Globe and Mail last week.

That is about as lame an argument as I have ever heard! Canada would make bank!

Nope, if you actually do research, something in marijuana actually prevents lung cancer. It's been awhile since I've read it, but what I remember about it, long time smokers who weren't cigarette smokers had virtually no incidents of lung cancer, compared with pot smokers who also smoked cigarettes. Besides, more and more spot smokers are using vaporizers, which completely eliminate the smoke.

Loving that Fox Business article, as a third-grader could have written better.

Increase in drug use leads to increase in crime. Fair enough. But that is not at all relevant. legalization of certain or all drugs does NOT necessarily mean an increase in anything, in fact it often means the opposite; less crime and overall drug use.

I think these two states will be the test tube and all kinds of comparisons will be made with the new stats that will be developed. Arguments for or against will be bolstered based on that data.

Pot is still a "gateway" drug.......you'll never convince me otherwise. Too many jailbirds swear it was the start of their drug use. They loved the high and eventually it wasn't enough and they went to other drugs for more high. It's always the subject of scared straightand other prison programs trying to educate the youth.

You also cannot convince me that inhaling SMOKE into you lungs is harmless. I smoked for 48 years.....don't even start to tell me about inhaling smoke!!!

Colorado & Washington will run into all kinds of messed up Federal & state stuff. The only people that will be pleased by this new law is the makers of Goldfish!!!!

Addictive personalities whether it is booze, gambling, smoking, drugs, or over eating or even sex.... etc. etc. will always be a subject to contend with. I do agree that there is always something that triggers the addiction. I would not characterize any particular substance as a "gateway". The trigger could be different for different people.

I do believe that if you get your pot from an illegal source, those dealers may deal in other types of drugs which could cause you to move to the next level. If you buy from a legal source you probably won't have an easy connection to move to the next level.

Bottom Line... You are responsible for your addiction not pot or anything else.

[h=1]Canadian hemp growing like a weed, experts ponder how to help industry blossom[/h]
EDMONTON - Canada's small hemp industry is growing like a weed, but still faces some hurdles because of its illegal and potent cousin, marijuana.

This week, farmers, scientists, health food experts, retailers and fashion designers are meeting in Edmonton to celebrate hemp and discuss how to help products derived from the plant to blossom on world markets.
