As usual, you have it wrong, what else would I expect? Lets be clear, the red ensign, with the blue X with stars on it, NEVER WAS THE OFFICIAL FLAG of the confederacy. It was only to be used on the battle field by the confederate forces, and with a laughable explanation. At the time, the Union North was using this flag on the battlefield Now, on the battleflield, with all the black powder smoke and fires, the confederate soldiers had trouble identifying their soldiers from the Union soldiers at a distance, because the flags were very similiar in design. This is what the FIRST Confederate "Battle flag" looked like. The second The Third The fourth Because they were to similiar and hard to distinguish on the battlefield, the generals made a decision to make identifying them alot easier by asking to have it changed to a BLUE X on a red ensign, with the stars of the confederacy within the blue X. William T. Thompson complied and agreed and made the changes to both the BATTLE FLAG and NATIONAL adopted FLAG. While I appreciate YOUR acknowledgement , that William T. Thompson of the Nation of Confederates was a RACIST, what you leave out, is that he was not only a white supremacist, but a RELIGIOUS CHRISTAIN racist, believing the GOD himself made the White Man superior to all races of color. He based ALL of his racist writings on the book of the lord, citing the bible over and over as his basis for maintaining a level of racial bigotry second to none. The "Battleflag" incorporated into what William T. Thompson designed as "THE WHITE MANS FLAG" looked like this.. Using the suggestion of the generals and his own racial annimous, the confederacy was based solely on racial hatred and superiority over people of color. Regardless of democrat or republican, at the time, those roles were reversed in society then as they are today. Yesterdays republicans are not todays republicans by any stretch. Quote: ""As a people, we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause.… Such a flag…would soon take rank among the proudest ensigns of the nations, and be hailed by the civilized world as THE WHITE MAN'S FLAG.… As a national emblem, it is significant of our higher cause, the cause of a superior race, and a higher civilization contending against ignorance, infidelity, and barbarism. Another merit in the new flag is, that it bears no resemblance to the now infamous banner of the Yankee vandals."" Now of course, many of you midwest yahoos feel the same way today, as Thompson felt in the early 1800's and that really goes without saying, but there can be no misunderstanding of the battleflag, or the Official National Confederate flags intentions or applications. It was a completely racial movement based upon hate and racial bigotry. To call it anything less, would be insulting your own intelligence. TOS.
