They didn't recommend masks at the beginning because they never had recommended their use for slowing the spread of respiratory illness, because the science has never supported it. Also, masks generally increase face touching, which is why they increase the risk for the wearer.It is my assertion that the 180 on mask use recommendation was to get people to use any old filthy rag and stop hoarding the supplies that, if effective at all, are most likely to be effective in clinical settings, with meticulously proper use. But, healthcare workers make up 10-15% of covid cases, so what does that say about mask use?</blockquote>
