Crazy request from management.

Box Monkey
Tell it.

One of our drivers in another center in our building was told tonight that he was to go back out and "break into a letter box". They told him to they would give him a pry bar and some tape and that he was to break into the box. While giving the WTF look he quickly noticed a less senior driver present and pulled seniority and left it to someone else.

I personally would have refused unless given that order in front of a union steward. You won't see me destroying UPS property on purpose without a witness there during the request.

A pry bar and tape to break into a letter box? Is there a driver with the last name Macgyver in your center?

As far as I knew, boxes have codes.......isn't management supposed to know what they are? They could at least know ONE thing other than who doesn't know their depth of knowledge

You couldn't make this dookie up if you tried.

I had to cover a letter-box a couple years ago...inside dbx, 90 min after the office complex closed (normal driver has the key?)...

Messaged the center, "Doors are locked, no one's inside, can't pick up this letterbox", etc.

OMS sent me a message: "Try using your credit card or a knife if you have one to get the door open...or look for a window you can climb through..."

???

My response: "Absolutely not, coming back to building".

We're UPS, we'll break into your building if necessary to get that ARS!

Ok but what happens when the code or lock is broken?

In my center a letter box would not open two drivers at the box trying to open it. What did mgmt. do, they took the box put in back of the PC and bought it back to the building. The next day they put the box in a sups. pick up and he drove it back out, damaged door still not working. I dont even kmow who fixes this stuff but they came out and put a new box in that day.

Same here!......................................... any 2 year old could figure out the code to our letterboxes and to the lockboxes in our cab for the extra set of keys!!Too much technology not enough common sense!!!

Years ago we had a driver that couldn't get a box open one night. He got it in the package car somehow and brought it back to the Hub.

I have a box that the pick up /not pick up sign does not switch over. I've told my sup about it for a year now. No one has fixed it yet. I have to use an info notice and write on it picked up and then I put the time.

I have had that also. May be the batteries need to be replaced.

I helped load one in the back of letter center van and followed him to airport. pelled the back off with sups/management watching ,moments before the last can was being loaded, all 6 letters made service. from there.
