sniper as in a sniper attack. Guy perched on a rock on a hill but well hidden , shoots at you with a rifle 500 yards away. You don't expect it , it is sort of an ambush. Just type in sniper on google to get a feel of it. You can argue that Lee Harvey Oswald was a sniper (you could also argue he was a patsy but let's not go there), the d.c. sniper case comes to mind as well.
