Delivering to storage units

What is proper protocol here. Drop at the desk and get a sig or get a key and do everything yourself?

The routes that I cover already have the storage unit keys. SDN, type in name, left in garage, resi; is the way I have done it for 15 or so years.

From the Storage company's perspective I'd categorize signing for something and not putting it in the unit themselves as "dumb".

If the customer checked up on a package and it was refused because the storage place wouldn't deliver it to the unit I'd imagine they'd get an earful from the customer.
