FRANKFURT, Oct. 24 (Reuters) - Deutsche Post's supervisory board will meet for an extraordinary meeting this weekend, sources familar with the situation said on Friday.
A spokeswoman for Deutsche Post declined to comment.
Deutsche Post's shares slid today after United Parcel Service Chief Executive Scott Davis said on Thursday that the company may change the size and scope of a planned cooperation with Deutsche Post on air freight in the United States.
Deutsche Post has been struggling to turn around its business there, and analysts said measures taken may not be enough. A slump in European markets and shrinking consumer and business demand in the United States may hurt the companies earnings more this year than previously thought, they said.

I wonder if we are scaling back our deal or increasing it? Sounds like Deutsch Post is taking it on the chin in Europe as well as the U.S.

Im not the Mail Man!
I say there are one of two scenerios that will happen, either they will get out completely or they will want us to move all of their freight in the U.S. for them. Remember internationally they are still the top dog but here in the states they are falling apart at the seems. They need to shore up the expenses ASAP. If they cant they will lose so much money that huge invusions of money will be needed from the German government, but that will than expose them to the truth regarding their relationship with them. They dont want that because they wont be able to operate here as an airlinethan. Sucks for them but its good for us.

But Benefits Are Great!

Just Words On A Screen
You have the largest (UPS) wanting to "buy" a big chunk of the smallest (DHL), announced almost a year ago..... A year where the ecconomy went in the toilet, the largest (ups) having a down year, and the smallest (dhl) simply abandoning the US market.

If this transaction was ever going to happen, it had to happen quickly. It didn't. What you will see is UPS doing nothing but counting on sales leads to mop up the crumbs of the DHL US market, which costs UPS nothing.

Smart move on UPS's part - the announcement of "something" a year ago pushed all the DHL customers that mattered to FedEx and UPS, at no cost to either.

Move along - there is nothing to see here - and won't be, either.

Are you reaching or do you know some national shippers that left DHL for FDX or us?

Dell for sure went back to UPS and a few catalog shoppers have ended up at FedEx and UPS. A large dental supply company started using FedEx this week also. From what I've heard DHL is stopping Domestic service on 12/1 and announcing it on 11/1. Int'l is all that will be left.

exdhl dot com is a good source for DHL info.

Yea, we were told a couple of weeks ago that UPS snagged a 70M a year account with nordstroms here in Iowa and that Des Moines get to handle it all. This account is supposed to be 60% smalls so Des Moines get all the RNC bags and all the rest of us in iowa get to use garbage bags thru peak this year. Gonna be fun thats for sure.

Is it time to go home yet
I'm surprised to hear of Nordstroms.I believe that Nordstrom's,Neiman marcus and Saks are all associated and a member of the board of directors of Fedex sits on the board of them.

Yes...I heard of that also. If you want to know who FDX handles just look at the shippers name when they DR the package(s).

Saw a note on the door at my local Walgreen's today - effective 10/30/08 DHL shipping will no longer be available. Didn't check out any other Walgreens stores around here, but I'll bet it applies to all of them (Chicago area).

It does apply to all of them and not just Chicagoland.

There are more changes coming . . .

Just keep sending in sales leads . . .

DHL's 3rd Quarter earnings are next Monday. There are additional announcements that will happen at that time.
