Driver Helper Update

Well it was my second day as a helper, got a whole whopping 2 hours in again. Yesterday my driver was cool, to the point, lots of stop and go. The guy I had today was a swing driver, on a different route, who was covering for someone out of vacation. this guy was a hack, smoking in the truck, talking on his cell phone, told me he stopped at the same street 3 times because he kept screwing up, forgot to scan packages. I couldnt believe it really. Well luckily he is only covering till the end of the week and by Monday I should have the normal driver back who i have yet to meet. With UPSs standards on appearance, are you even allowed to smoke in your truck!? just seems odd for a company to let you smoke, but you cant have sideburns longer than your ear lobe!

It's good in a way that you are being exposed to more than one driver so that you will appreciate the ones that do a good job and the others who..er..not so much.

In defense of the cover driver......

If you are the 1st helper that he was with this year, that can explain some of it. All year, we do our routes with noone else in the cab. It is a bunch easier to concentrate with no one in the cab.

Using the cell phone, though, while driving, will get you a day off.

I thought I would get one of those little battery operated fans.

It is just common courtesy.

I am thankful that both of the cover drivers for my area don't smoke, although one has an obsession with seeds and hasn't figured out how to dispose of them other than on the floor.

Remember they ask us if you should be rehired. two 2 hour shifts dont give you the right to say nothing. The driver your with paid his dues. TO be a cover driver... Some day if you want this job you will understand. Oh this is rich..... I can't wait.... Not only is there a Superbowl this year, but also this feud. I think the ratings should be about the same for both events.

I smoke in the cab of my truck. I do not smoke in the back. If I had a helper that had a problem with it, I would give them two options, suck it up and finish the day with me and request a new driver the next day or they could get out at the next stop. To be honest, any helper I had would barely notice if I smoked or not as they would spend more time out of my truck delivering stops than watching to see if I am smoking. Of course I only get a puff or two off of each cigarette as I'm pretty busy to say the least.

My situation would be 100% reversed. I don't smoke and if the helper wanted to smoke he would have 2 options. Smoke when we take a break or find another driver.

Only reason I smoke in my car is that there is no time to get out & smoke.

Great...customers love the ash tray smell!

here in Ohio we're not permitted to smoke in the Pkg. cars there are several notices in each car

UNY- I'm not sure what rocket's problem is with you. if it''s this post about smoking than he must dislike me too. I've even had supervisors put their cigs away. I'm sorry but you're in my space and I don't smoke and I appreciate if you respect that. I cant really stop a cover driver from smoking in my truck but I know the guys that run my trip don't smoke so i am pretty safe there.
