Smoked for 31 years, put them down back in February.

I always carried a cup style ashtray partially filled with baking soda. Never smoked in a package car without having both doors open. Several non smoking customers were surprised to find out I was a (former) smoker, said they never “smelled” it on me. Of course not, re-read my doors and ashtray comments.

I do notice the smoker’s odor on others and see why it could be offensive to some.

Way back when I started with UPS it seemed like smoking was a perquisite to becoming a manager.

Hopefully this will become the rule rather than the exception.
I understand there is a lawsuit in the Northeast somewhere claiming the vehicles (pkg cars and especially feeder tractors) are work areas and are covered by OSHA rules regarding health and safety.
There's nothing quite like having to spend 6-8 hours in a tractor with the stench of someone else's cigarette smoke.
If Atlanta had any intestinal fortitude they would ban smoking in all vehicles and buildings or areas around entry ways to buildings.

No offense, but the government can "butt" the heck out of my business. Just what we need. The government telling me what I can do and where I can do it. Is that what you people really want? Yes I know that cigarette smoking is harmful to the smoker and there have been studies that show that second hand smoke is harmful to others to some extent. However, how does smelling a stale smoke odor in a shared vehicle jeopardize anyone's health and or safety? You know, letting the government regulate these kinds of things are a slippery slope and there are so many ways rules like this can be interpreted. All I'm saying is...be careful what you wish for...

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists ,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

I once had a helper ask,"Do you mind if I smoke?" as he pulled his pack of butts out. I told him to go right ahead. Then I asked him, "Do you mind if I fart?". He put his cigarettes away.

My fourth grade teacher would always tell the class- (when someone asks you if you care if they smoke) you should reply "I don't care if you burn."
