FedEx CEO Upbeat On US Economy, Sees 3Q GDP Up 3%, 4Q Up 4.9% - Wall Street Journal
FedEx Corp. (FDX) Chief Executive Frederick W. Smith offered an upbeat assessment of the broad economy Thursday, saying he sees "encouraging signs" that the downturn has ended and forecasting growth through 2010.
Smith, speaking on a post-earnings conference call, said he expects U.S. gross domestic product to grow 3% in the calendar third quarter and 4.9% in the fourth quarter. For 2010, he forecast GDP growth of 2.9%.
"We are hopeful and confident as we look ahead," Smith said.
