Fred S Wins US Chamber of Commerce Weasel Award

Frederick W. Smith has been awarded the 2010 U.S. Chamber of Commerce Weasel Award for being a champion of the Free Market while simultaneously killing-off the union movement at FedEx. In addition to funneling millions to Right Wing candidates, Smith has very successfully emulated WalMart founder Sam Walton by spreading his "Low Wages-All The Time" philosophy throughout his company. Remarkably, Smith has managed to convert FedEx Express into a virtual clone of WalMart, and a merger between the 2 companies is rumored to be in the initial negotiation stages.

Smith deserves special recognition for his Brownbailout.com campaign, which successfully painted United Parcel Service as the potential recipient of special legislation which would actually allow UPS to compete fairly with FedEx. The Chamber wishes to recognize Mr Smith for living-up to our concept of the Free Market, which is that he who pays the most to politicians should enjoy special advantages in return for that money. Smith's Railway Labor Act classification is a coup of the highest order, and proof-positive that Republican values and the Free Market work best for those who are most generous with political contributions. Smith has virtually assured the elimination of the union threat at FedEx and can now pay his employees WalMart-level wages forever. The Chamber approves of this high level of achievement and scheming, and is now considering Mr Smith for the prestigious "Karl Rove Scheming SOB" award. which rewards lies, political maneuvering, and the movement of large amounts of cash from "unknown" foreign sources.

Finally, Mr. Smith deserves this award for his "FedEx Cares" campaign and for the "FedEx Is Green" scam. As far as the Chamber is concerned, this may be Smith's greatest achievement yet. While squashing his employees like a bug with all of his dirty political money, Smith directed FedEx to participate in numerous heavily publicized charitable or relief efforts in order to deflect attention from his union-busting efforts and political tricks. As if that were not enough, Smith also garnered several environmental awards despite being one of the biggest polluters on the planet. By skillfully purchasing a few pieces of green technology and then publicizing these efforts with a massive PR campaign, Smith actually conned enough stupid people into believing that FedEx was environmentally responsible that they actually bought it. What a con!!! Bravo!

Fred, you are a Free Market weasel of the highest order, and all of us at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce would once again like to congratulate you for pretending to uphold Free Market principles while simultaneously doing everything in your power to create a FedEx-controlled marketplace. You exemplify duplicity and dishonesty in everything you do and say.

You are a great American.

Do you really have nothing better to do than come up with crap like this?

It's not crap when the parody represents facts. Smith has bought his way out of a union threat with dirty politics and is a Free Market conservative of the highest order. He's also a major hypocrite, because he doesn't really believe in having fair competition(a true free market), as demonsrated by his special RLA advantage. He is the prototype of the corporate criminal worshipped by the Right Wing and their puppet organization, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Fred S is Skull and Bones, Right-Wing, anti-union, and a master manipulator of our supposed free market economy, which really runs per the wishes of the monied elite like Smith who can buy and sell politicians like commodities. He is a weasel and one hell of a "businessman" by Chamber of Commerce standards.

He deserves the mock award.

so pathetic

Yes, Fred is pathetic. He's probably orgasmically happy right now that the newly Republican House will create legislative gridlock. This means that his agenda of keeping us non-union via the RLA and no EFCA is very safe. Screw America, as long as it's good for Fred.

With your dribble? Who cares?

No. And nobody. MFE and I agree that Fred is getting his way. Attempts at getting the RLA change and EFCA are effectively dead for the next two years. Do you get it? In the legislative atmosphere of the previous two years there was some hope, though repeated inaction stymied that hope and now it's gone. Whatever mock award is given, the political and social realities for those at Fedex are now set in Fred's favor for the forseeable future.

Yep. Fred has gotten his way for now. We can thank an woefully ineffective Democratic Congress and President for failing to take-on the Smiths of the world. The status quo of the rich getting richer (at our expense) remains firmly entrenched. Way to eff it up Barack, Jim (Hoffa), and the rest of you. Fred couldn't have done it without you.

Is this what you think of Fred S or all CEO's?

And yet the ability to vote a union in with a national vote has been given to us earlier this year. All we need is a simple majority of participating employees. And yet we do nothing...

Oh I get it and I agree with what you say here. I just want to add that the Senate and the false hope they gave us couldn't care less about the working folks that elected them as their couldn't care less attitudes towards rectifying the playing field pretty much let this whole thing slip away. Those elected officials (with a few exceptions) are pretty much a slave to Fred's wallet and checkbook.
