Message: <blockquote data-quote="vantexan" data-source="post: 2618701" data-attributes="member: 24302"><p>Well, as Reagan used to say, the Democrats were in charge of Congress so for everything Reagan did he had to compromise on spending with Congress, although he tried to reduce what he could.  However, during that period people weren't as polarized, China wasn't THE manufacturing center, we hadn't created NAFTA yet.  And spending wasn't at the level we saw under Bush and Obama, especially Obama.  The debt as percentage of GDP was much smaller then.  I remember Reagan explaining just how much 1 trillion in debt was when he ran for President.  We've created a debt monster that they couldn't even fathom in the '80's.</p></blockquote><p></p>
