The standard of living both Canada and the United States enjoy is proof positive. Even our poor don't do badly relative to much of the world. Know what doesn't work? Trying to achieve equality of outcome before equality of opportunity. Believe it or not, where I live, we taxpayers fund two free years of community college for high school graduates. But it's totally their choice whether they want to take advantage of the opportunity or not. When they do, they often come out making a better living than someone with a 4 year degree. And they become productive, tax paying members of the community. It's a much better way to go than screaming "capitalism sucks" and forming a daily bread line.</blockquote>
