In numerology, the number twelve is considered the number of completeness, as reflected in the twelve months of the year, twelve hours of the clock, twelve gods of Olympus, twelve tribes of Israel, twelve Apostles of Jesus, the 12 successors of Muhammad in Shia Islam, etc., whereas the number thirteen was considered irregular, transgressing this completeness. There is also a superstition, thought by some to derive from the Last Supper or a Norse myth, that having thirteen people seated at a table will result in the death of one of the diners.

One author, noting that references are all but nonexistent before 1907 but frequently seen thereafter, has argued that its popularity derives from the publication that year of Thomas W. Lawson's popular novel Friday, the Thirteenth, in which an unscrupulous broker takes advantage of the superstition to create a Wall Street panic on a Friday the 13th."

I want to see that!! I'll wait for RedBox to have it, but it's on my list. I'm wanting 'Absentia' now, but it's been out.

I checked. Three Friday the 13ths during the course of the marriage. I did swing the superstition in the direction of it being the 21st for gambling purposes though.

Friday the 13th is my lucky day.

In 2006 on a Friday 13th, me and a co-worker had planned a week long vacation to Las Vegas. Poker was still good, and semi-legal on the internet. I had won 40K in a tourney on pokerstars a few months earlier. So I decided to take 10K and try my luck at poker in Vegas. We got there around 1 pm and our room wasn't ready yet. So we went to try a little BJ while we waited. I bought in for $800 and about 3 hours later had ran that up to 65K. We went up to the room, got ready and went to Delmonico's for dinner. When we got back I decided to take another shot a BJ and took 2K down to play a couple more hours. Well, I ran that 2K up to 50K. Tried some Craps, 4-card poker, roulette and ended up +135K my first night in vegas.

I wish I could say the rest of the trip went as well as the first night, but ya know what they say. Don't build those billion dollar casinos on winners do they. Still a great trip and a healthy profit. I'm having to fight the feeling pretty hard to call-in and head to the local indian casino now, LOL.

I used to buy 13 pull tabs every Friday the 13th (back when you actually had a chance to win). I seemed to always win at least 50 bucks. The best I ever did was $350 on 13 tabs. I don't play them anymore because the odds are so terrible now.
