Why does that bother you so much? I used to wonder why the communists wouldn't just let people go who didn't want to stay in their countries. I've come to realize there are people everywhere who just can't handle losing control of others. You're creating this massive nanny state and we must all stay and participate until our last breath. Well I've done my part. You say I'll draw down my SS 3 years after retiring. What about the millions who lived off the system most of their lives? We who consistently worked for decades helped pay their way. And it's not about finding a better place than the U.S., it's about finding something affordable that we're happy enough with. And my retirement income is already secured, just waiting for it to start at 55, and waiting for my 15 yr old dog to die. Maybe you resent my having options with my FedEx pension. I worked hard for a long time to have that way out. It was more important to me than having a nice home in a nice neighborhood with all the toys. If you didn't plan for an eventual escape valve, opting for keeping up with the Joneses instead, that's your fault, not mine. Being American means having the freedom to live wherever I want, as long as I can afford to and satisfy residency requirements. And I'll pay as I go per healthcare, living in an area where walking instead of driving is the norm for most, eating fresh foods, generally a healthier lifestyle.
