Let's get something cleared up. Socialism is a central government or governing body owns industry and the means of production and the fruits of that production are then shared equally by the people. Social Security is the socialization of risk, which simply means risks are shared by society as a whole, not by individuals. Not the same thing(currently reading a very authoritative book on SS). And it's not "contempt" I have for helping people who truly need it. It does bother me when able bodied make a lifestyle out of government assistance, while our progressive leaders continue to spend with abandon, telling those willing to work they must shoulder the burden. If I contribute for a lifetime, and remember my contributions 30 years ago were worth much more adjusted for inflation, I should expect a monthly check for my efforts. Are you against the elderly getting an old age pension? Really? If you crunch the numbers you'd also see that your SS won't provide much of a living here, but overseas it's serious money. And with today's technology you can watch American tv, listen to American radio, have live video conversations with loved ones, etc anywhere with a decent internet connection. You can stay here and wail how everything is so unfair, or you can do something about it.
