[QUOTE="Sniper, post: 2261263, member: 48816"] Mr. French, I read your article and would like to provide my reasons for running for State Senate but to be fair I must provide a little of my background. I went to University High School 1st -11th grade, I graduated a year early. I graduated ETSU with a B.S. in Criminal Justice in 1986. I enrolled in the masters program in the fall of 1987 and have 33 graduate hours earned. My first job out of college was being a deputy for the Washington County Sheriff’s office in 1987. In 1989 the Tennessee Public Service commission hired me as an Enforcement officer for the motor carrier division. Law enforcement and politics DO NOT mix. I don’t know if you were around in the 1990’s but the PSC was a regulatory agency with LE powers. The democrats were large and in charge of the house/senate and executive office in Tennessee. I have a scrap book I would love to share with you on fighting the good fight against a politically corrupt organization. I stood up and told the truth and upheld the law because I took an oath as a Law Enforcement Officer, Master Mason and a United States Marine. Oath’s mean something to me. I testified before the state legislature in 1991 and in Federal court. Shortly thereafter the PSC was abolished and eventually the officers were moved under the THP. If I could go back I would have told the truth but not poked the donkeys so hard and I would now be a THP officer with 25 years in ready to retire….but that is water under the bridge. I could not drive back and forth to Knoxville scales in my own car. They ran me off but I threw a grenade in the door as I shut it behind me. With all of that said, the Democrats treated me better in 1990 than the Republicans did in 2014 when I was taken off the ballot for Sheriff here in Sullivan County. (more on that later) We still have problems in Nashville. I was hired by FedEx Express in 1992. I have worked here for 24 years and love my job. I do not work for a contractor so I’m not able to take a leave of absence to campaign full time like Mr. Kerney. In 1996 the WCSO started a reserve officer program. I have worn a badge and gun for the last 20 years serving and protecting the citizens of Tennessee for a dollar a year. We get the same in service training/classes/range time as our full time counter parts. I am the only TRUE VOLUNTEER on the ballot in this election. Actions speak louder than words. I have always said I would retire from FedEx and go back home to Butler and run for sheriff, but fate and bad decisions by our sheriff in Sullivan county stepped in the way. My Dad and his parents were from Butler. I spent many a summer weekend at Pleasant’s Grocery. My father was Dr Justine Cline Blevins and he doctored Aunt Veene at the little house behind Uncle Carl’s Store. His parents were Ira William and Neila Emmylou Pleasant. They had 7 kids and provided an excellent education for all of them. 2 doctors, 1 dentist, 1 nurse, 1 commander in the Navy and 2 teachers. They came from a dirt poor Johnson County farm and literally had a positive impact on thousands of lives. They stressed the value of a good education and helped each other through college. About 4 years ago our sheriff here in Sullivan county started making very bad decisions. He burned a single wide trailer down, overspent his budget and he has sued the taxpayers twice now. His chief deputy is married to the 3rd in command and their son works there as well. I have filed a FIOA request with the department. In 2014 I decided to run for sheriff because we have all had quite enough of bad leadership and endless lawsuits. It seems that the state legislature passed TCA 8-8-102 as a “good ole boy” keep the insider in and outsiders out statute. I was taken off the ballot and I refused to sue. I was disqualified because I didn’t have 3 years full time law enforcement out of the last 10 years. My reserve time was worthless, along with my college degree. I wrote every state senator and representative and heard from ONE in west Tennessee. That in my opinion is not representing the constituents very well. I refused to sue or I would have been a hypocrite. Under the Constitution of Tennessee there will be no religious or political test for any elected office in this state. I urge you to Google Keith Bissell and the Tennessee Public Service Commission if you don’t recall that scandal. I made the papers from Memphis to Bristol, stood my ground and told the truth. I am not accepting any money for my campaign. If you look at the financial disclouseres each candidate must file you will be quite surprised by who has been paid money and for what reason. Two of my opponents gave each other donations a very few years ago. A little ridiculous but that’s my take on political donations. Unlike my 2 of my opponents I did not pay for my NRA membership out of political campaign donations. Unlike one of my openness I have not paid for a membership to Shooter Edge out of campaign donations and that same individual have given his company $81,002.00 of money donated by pacs and individuals. That is a sweet deal I guess if you can pull it off. To beat all the gentleman is from Michigan. While I’m sure this is legal in my opinion it very unethical to say the least. Money corrupts. All 3 of my opponents talk about how important the 2nd Amendment is to them. I’m the ONLY one of the ballot who has been a licensed gun dealer for 31 years. I got so mad at the NRA in 1986 when the first gun “ban” was passed I wrote them and dropped my membership for several years. All I am asking for is your vote not your money. We The People not we the pacs or special interest groups. Please like me on face book and I have sent you a link or two and one attachment. Best Regards, John Paul Blevins State Senate 4 candidate. PS I drive 300 miles every day on my FedEx route. When I’m elected, driving to Carter and Johnson County will be my privilege. I will be in Nashville January until May and be home on CHRISTmas Eve … that sounds like a working vacation for those of us that work for a living.
