Has the browncafe changed ?

A lot of posters have stated that the site has changed for the worse lately.
I personally disagree. It has always been a great place for upsers and anyone else
for that matter,to express your thoughts, rant,or otherwise just share experiences.
The only thing that ever changes is people.
There are thousands more members than 15 years ago,and it's more diversified.
For every maroon that says something stupid, there are 99% of the rest of us that
see it for what it really is.
I consider everyone here a friend, until they give me a reason not to be.
I do think that in some cases the lenience of rules about the TOS gives
the impression that you can say whatever you want with impunity.
This causes some animosity, and ultimately must be dealt with on a human level.
The browncafe is still exactly what Cheryl meant it to be. Nothing has changed.
To me it's like a hobby,I really am not obsessed with it as some folks seem to be.
I actually enjoy interacting here.We have some amazing people here that have
taught me a lot.
I was going to do a poll, but it would be stupid. So let me just ask.
How is the browncafe different than it "used" to be?

This site is a reflection of how ups is really is in real life. Everyone seems miserable and impatient.

Great post. I started with the company in 2009 and started reading the forum a couple months later. I "lurked" until last summer without posting/registering because I felt I hadn't "earned" a right to post yet. Over the last few years I've seen quite a bit on the board, but not as much as those who have been here since the beginning. That being said I think things are still essentially the same.

The cafe is a great place for all of us to come together and hang out. Great questions are asked and answered. People learn new things and ways of doing things. It is an invaluable source of information for employees both new hires and veterans alike. Sure there is a "use the search function" or wiseass response to questions that have been answered over and over or to new members who don't approach the community with respect and humility, and some bitter people who you can't please, however for the most part we're very helpful as a whole.

As to what has changed...not much. There has been a bit more drama and open bickering in threads as of late, but that is par for the course on an internet community where people enjoy quasi-anonymity. Some folks tend to have a bit more courage or treat others differently when they don't have to look them in the eye and can hide behind a keyboard, so sadly sometimes online exchanges tend to be different than in-person exchanges.

I think part of what makes the cafe great is that reasonable free speech is encouraged without unnecessary censorship. Just about every thread gets hopelessly derailed but I've come to love that about this place. Sometimes the derailment gets more interesting than the original post.

I'm happy to have the privilege to be a part of the cafe and sincerely appreciate those who host it and the effort put forth by those who take the time to help out as moderators.

Haven't been here long but i would say it is run with the same double standard as UPS is. Those are my thoughts. Moderate them if you like.

No disrespect intended, but as of yesterday you said you were not yet working for the company so I'm not sure how you can judge "everyone" as ups employees as miserable and impatient.

Wow, you figured that out in your brief exposure to Ups. I can assure you if the many of us who are drivers were impatient, we wouldn't be drivers here at this company for very long as we would have had too many accidents.

You know what impatience is: waiting for an A train in Rockaway, finally getting on it, and then watching it become a local train because the C train isn't running . And then discovering that the E train isn't running . By the time you get up to eight avenue and 42nd street, you will feel what impatience is as you wait for the traffic light to be in your favor as you try to make your way across to 11th avenue to punch in.

Congratulations on your 15 dollar an hour wage . If you factor in your commute time, it probably comes out close to $6.42 an hour. Also, you'll probably blow all your earnings on your return trip when you decide to stop at the Casino at Aqueduct.

Umm, I visited the facility and dealt with the security guards there. They were very miserable and stupid. When I put my phone in the basket and went through the metal detector, I asked the security guard if I can take up the phone now, and he yell yea in a vulgar tone. I felt like to punch him in his temple. But I did the right thing and ignored him. And one more thing for you, NEVER QUESTION MY INTEGRITY! I don't know you and you don't know me, lets keep it that way, ok pal?

Lol, you sound so naive and ignorant. There is only ONE A train to Manhattan and I live one block away from the A train station. And one more thing punk. I can use my school metrocard on the weekends to go to work. BOSS! And one more thing, I've never gone to that Casino before and have no intention on going there ever in the future. And the Manhattan bound A trains come almost every 10 minute, which isn't too long if you asked me.

Actually, there are two A trains, one that goes to lefferts boulevard and one that goes to your area. By the way, how well did that A train run when Hurricane Sandy hit?

The next time, I visit the 43 street facility, I will have a talk with the shop steward about the new hire from Rockaway Queens and relay to him all the nice things you said about UPS workers.

Good luck snitching, it won't work. And one more thing, there is only ONE Manhattan bound A train. That's what I said. There are Two A train to my area, right. And a shuttle bus substitutes for the A train between beach channel dr and 90th st. I'm still winning, are you?

We'll see Bobby. To see how far you'd go to destroy someone's life over some internet posts is utterly disgusting.

I won't have to lift a finger or wag a tongue. You already snitched on yourself. Corporate monitors this site and as you might have figured out by now, so do many of ups fellow workers(assuming you even got hired). You gave more than enough information for them to identify you. Corporate already knows they have someone with anger management issues and your co workers know they have someone who thinks he is better than they are. Good luck, Chuck!

I had to refrain myself from correcting your grammar, then I read this:

Maybe, just maybe, you should use the card to go to another school that teaches English on the weekends.

I think this site is better than ever. Thankyou Cheryl for starting this. His site is a mirror image of life. Sometimes it's nice and sometimes it's not. It's up to us to put on our big boy pants and not let it upset us. Sometimes this is easier said than done. I still love it more than ever and it's part of my daily routine that helps me cope with life. Everyone should have a little social media it the way of the world these days. Plus this place has introduced me to some great people.
