health and wellfare

New driver here. Starting wage for drivers is 18.75, but i was told that 1.25 gets taken out for health and wellfare. Can anyone shine some light on what that is exactly..

You will have to tell everyone where you are from (state or region of country) because different areas have different contracts and stipulations.
Then you can have someone from your area explain it to you.

A lot of unions do this and I don't care for it.

My buddy just started in a carpenters union. Told him starting pay was $22-23 an hour. He didn't know $6 bucks or so of that went towards his H&W.
