There's a ban on automatic weapons in the U.S. too.
Contrary to popular belief, it is perfectly legal for a law-abiding American citizen to own/possess a machine gun.

a private citizen can lawfully own a machine gun only if:

  1. the possessor isn’t a “prohibited person,”
  2. the full-auto machine gun was made before 1986, and
  3. their relevant state law does not ban that the firearm (whether banning machine guns outright or any firearm with certain features)

expensive and a lot of red tape but possible.

Plus there has never been a case of a legal machine gun used in a crime (not counting before 1934 when a law about them was passed)

Meanwhile criminals still have access to fully automatic weapons.

It’s becoming an increasing problem honestly, no law abiding citizen would ever carry one of these for defense an automatic pistol would be way too much of a liability to defend yourself with. It’s for these :censored2: gang bangers who don’t give a :censored2: about anyone other than themselves.

This is one time Elon Musk should have said nothing.
His comments came in response to Harvard Law graduate A.J. Delgado, who asked Musk his “thoughts on the AR-15 discussion.”

Musk responded:

Assault rifles should at minimum require a special permit, where the recipient is extremely well vetted imo
