I have had four routes over my 34-year driving career. I bid out of the Hub and have always been an assigned driver. First route was an industrial park out of a straight truck. Delivered 400 packages and picked up 600 usually before I blew it out. Then I bid on my first residential route. One of the first things I noticed when I went to work at UPS was that the older drivers drove smaller cars. This one was a P-600 that had a Walmart as the first stop and then I covered an un-incorporated small town. My third route was probably my favorite of all time. I drove a P-500 on a country route that had about 200-250 miles a day. 60-65 stops, one of the shelves was empty. That lasted one year and the previous driver rolled me off of it. He didn't like the supervisor so he bid off of it for a year. OCS moved, so he took it back. I then bid on the route he left, I have been on it since 1996. I started out in a P-500 and was forced to take a P-700 when they came out. All subdivisions around a bunch of lakes with no pickups. I have looked at a couple of other routes but they don't seem to be any better. I'm too close to the end to change now.
