Hopefully your family doctor will be able to get you in family leave. Otherwise, get a note, and maybe try to tough it out after another day or two.

If you are sick, take the time and treatment needed to get well. It has nothing to do with family, or the threat of a write-up.

Go to your PCP; get a doctors note excusing you for the least amount of days you and your doctor feel necessary. Then go back and reassess the situation; you can return, or extend if necessary.

I had a terrible virus in March which had me useless for 7 days. No throwing up, but high fever (six days straight over 100F up to 102), sweat and chilled through every blanket and pc of clothing around, extreme lethargy, body aches and other things. Gave two doctors notes, because I couldn't function even after four days off. Went back sick with bronchitis..
