Idiots fired.

Care to share stories of how drivers lose their jobs doing stupid things?

We had a driver who was suspended for sheeting NDAs before being at the stop. I am not sure if he didn't understand telematics(new at our center) or just didn't care but after he came back 3 weeks later he did it again. Fired!

Way back when....it was always rolling cod's and figuring no one would find out. They always find out!

One driver leaving work used the UPS pumps and filled up his pesonal car. (dumb)

We had had an early morning meeting in a conference room upstairs. After it was over we all came downstairs, went to the PCM, then up to our cars.
Oops, Dan had left his jacket in the conference room and ran up to get it.

Unfortunately, the DM had picked up the jacket to bring downstairs and a bag of pot fell out. They were just waiting for him to come upstairs for the jacket.

Pees in the brown Koolaid
We had a driver get caught with lines of coke on a mirror on shelf 2 at his first stop. He denied the coke was his, tried to blame the preloader for leaving it there, but resigned when they ordered him to take a pee test for drugs.

Weve had 3 drivers in the last 5 yrs get fired for getting a 2nd DUII.

We recently had a preloader who was stealing ipads out of palletized boxes for an electronics store and giving them to a driver, who would get them out of the building and then sell them on ebay. One of the buyers tried to register it, it came up hot, he called the police, and the driver got hauled out of the building in cuffs.

We had a driver get fired for swerving off of the road and taking out a power pole while (a) reading his diad, (b) talking on his cellphone and (d) steering the car with his knees.

We had a driver get fired for stop completing NDA residentials and delivering them later in the day.

We had a guy who made "bonus" by adding 25 miles per day to his timecard for a few weeks before a simple audit caught the discrepancy.

We had a guy back into a garage door so hard that he caved it in, and then drive away instead of reporting it. The brown paint on the door and the door paint on the rear bumper of the car were proof enough, but when he denied even being there in spite of delivery records to the contrary, he got fired for dishonesty. He would still be here if he had simply been honest and reported it.

Ive seen a lot of stupidity in my 25 years here.

Anything that gets a driver fired and the firing sticks is, by necessity, stupid. An accident repeater who rear ends a car while texting, one who signed for a package, and one who committed a list of things when he decided he didn't want to work for UPS anymore.

we recently had a driver fired for selling packages, and sheeting them'left at' a bogus address.

In the 80's and 90's we had 3 drivers fired for taking the cash from COD's,and turning it in weeks later

In the old days before the DIAD there were a couple of drivers who would kill themselves to get thru by lunch, then spend the afternoon hiding out reading the paper, and farking off. it was all well and good until one of the drivers had a breakdown and was caught 15 miles off area with forged records

Its not that hard to keep your job here.

Show up on time, clean and sober and ready to do your job. Work as instructed. Be 100% honest at all times, admit it when you screw up, dont steal, and dont get DUII's. Its not rocket science, people.

Our shop steward was selling things on eBay and providing free NDA shipping by slipping them into his load with ASDs, one guy used the gas card to fill his own vehicle 300 miles away on a Sunday (caught to the tune of almost $7000), and one guy who didn't report his DWI until after the new steward told him that, yes, he did have to fill out the federal motor vehicle certification. He had been driving suspended for almost 3 months.

That's always been my philosophy ... you can screw up big time but if you are sincere in your efforts and honest about it, you still have a job.

It is not rocket science, true....but there are some that could get a masters in trying to find ways to get everything they can out of the system.

$7g??? That's worthy of some time in the joint.

I'm not a driver, but we recently had a pick-off who was fired for peeling shipping labels. Physically removing them and either stealing or discarding the label. My guess is he intended on being fired and this was just his way of going out.

Had a female air driver hit a low bridge , damaging the roof and windshield of a P700.
Witnessed by a FedX driver.
That happened at the start of her run , which she finished .
Drove back to the yard in the dark , off loading everything into a P300 and then drove into the building to unload the P300. Leaving the P700 backed into a unused door .

Lets see. One driver fired for having brother sending him pot NDA to his house. He lived on his route. Still not sure how they found out.

We had a driver fired for stealing thousands of dollars of ipods and selling them on route. Too bad he registered one to himself. Caught him red handed with two boxes in his truck at the end of the day which he hadn't sheeted or called in. It was a swing driver doing it, but UPS made the regular drivers life a living hell, because they were sure he was stealing the ipods from Best Buy. Still not sure how he avoided getting arrested.

Had a driver fired for delivering nxda late. He refused to deliver his airs first. He always wanted to get a big bulk stop off first which made him late with his airs. Took about three times before they let him go.

20 year driver got fired for 3 days no call no show. Took off to Iowa with some girl and never came back. Hope this relationship works out better than his other 2 or 3 wives did.
