Layoffs after Christmas

I got a letter in the mail today from the Georgia District Manager. It addressed the current loss of business volume and urged us to go after DHL accounts. In my state, we have 93 fewer Package and 35 less Feeder Drivers then we did this time last year.

I did have a Dell notebook delivery today. I haven't had one of these except through HSN or QVC in a long time.

Got the same letter in the mail today as well Scratch. At our PCM, besides the above information, we were also told that our package volume in the GA District is down 44,000 pieces a day compared to last year. That's huge! Of course, my route's planned up to over 9 hours the past two days with heavy delivery and p/u volume. Other drivers in our white collar areas (near Corporate) have seen volume go down greatly. I work in a industrial suburb so the volume is still there for me but some days they do have to take stops from the route next to me to make me plan up.

Sorry to hear about that. Meanwhile in Wisconsin. We are hiring like mad, we keep getting too much business at my hub. We are at 12,000 more at this time then were last year. Sorry to hear about their layoffs. Pray they get better I guess.

I agree with some of these post 10.000 runners aday 8.000 dont take lunch. thats 8.000 hours a lot of man hours you guys are the ones who should be laid off. first of all your fasleifing records, even when your so slick putting your hour in and still doing stops. I want to get home like every one eles but i also want th the guy in the package car next to me to get a chance to go home from a days work to. I really do not want any one to get off if any thing we better stick together. I know i bust a lot of chops on here.but upstate nyer deserves it. most of the time,. :wink2:

One of the biggest shippers in our area is starting to ship their Christmas items. This past weekend, they sent out 12 trailer loads. Last year at this time, they shipped out 20.

We had a PCM today and they told us that Certitos Hub in CA. Laid off 50 Drivers. I have never herd of that many drivers laid off. Not even on 1997 strike or sept 11. Pretty scarry

I was told on Monday (my first day back on preload) that they were putting 15 drivers inside. I saw a fellow driver and he said he was told it was closer to 30...

Lot's of rumors here. The only thing I know for sure, is that I just took a 60% pay cut to get forced inside. Part timers are making more than me, and the union says "That's just the way it is".

We all received the same letters here in Tennessee. The numbers were almost identical.

I heard Jacksonville FL Hub laid off every PT with under 2 years seniority. Can anyone verify this.

Not that I have ever heard of----about 3 1/2 months was the longest we ever had anyone laid off. According to all the "gloom and doomers" though this round could take a little longer----- maybe it's time for a revolution:peaceful:

Four, maybe five layoffs announced today at our building. They won't drive again until December 1 at the earliest. Going to use 7 less drivers for Christmas this year. I once thought I had enough seniority to avoid layoffs; I am beginning to wonder.

Usually center cut some routes after peak but to tell you the truth going from 40 to 20 something routes is totally unbelievable I mean lets use some common sense here. Who ever told you that is either a idiot or trying to make you look like and idiot.

I could see if something major happen like QVC, Amazon, Walmart, and every other big store went out of business at the same time.

you hit the nail on the head. What will happen is lay off many for a week, then have to bring many back because the company wont be able to function. All this will do is make our service, which seems to be fair at best right now, turn into the brown dhl. The only ones who will benefit is the purple and orange. Why isnt EVERY MANAGEMENT PERSON IN BROWNS OUT WITH DRIVERS VISITING CUSTOMERS GETTING FEDEX VOLUME, talking with customers, seeing how their "cost cutting" actually upsets customers thus loosing volume in the long run. Ive seen it over, and over, ........

Why isnt ups going after fedex's corporate customers??These are accounts where the driver doesnt mean jack, its not ma and pa were talking about here. Why dont ups start thinking outside the box on this and start beating fedex at their own game. Stop spending gawd knows how many millions on truck sensors, and diad 5, etc, etc and start putting EVERYTHING in putting fedex out of business. Stop paying the amex card of the onroad sup who just spent 50 bucks of ups money to follow a driver around who wasnt doing anything but trying to keep this company going busting his/her arse , trying to kiss arse to customers who are tired of their delivery time changing on a daily basis and ups denying claims on their smashed up packages. Why isnt the center, and building managers out on car really getting a feel of this economy first hand from the customers. Why arent they out there seeing the 5 reddaway or yellow freight trailers parked outside the dock doors, hey...they cant use the excuse "we cant touch their prices because they are non union", because they are and they are everywhere. Why arent we bundling prices and giving customers large discounts for using strictly ups services? What happen to the idea of ssi, it was a great idea, nobody seems to hear much about it now. This is a company that can think of all kinds of ways to fire someone, maybe its time to think of a few doozies they can use against fedex. Its so frustrating.

Why are any of you surprised!!!!!! / For the past ten years the UPS employee rolls have been on the decline ::::; Have you all been as sleep at the wheel //// Since the company went public you better get a grip on whats really important THE BOTTOM LINE / not the employee
