    Never stop. Co-founder Jim Casey set the firm's standard: keep surpassing customer expectations. Today service ranges from customer-made online labels to discounts for multiple packages bound for the same destination, says Greg Niemann, a former UPS manager and author of "Big Brown."

    Jim Casey wouldn't recognize UPS as it is today. I'm not talking about all of the technological advances. I'm talking about the shift away from customer service toward production/numbers and having to answer to stockholders.
