Local 710 seasonal driver usage

So for the past two weeks my center has been using 3-4 seasonal drivers on Monday and Saturday, while not offering the work to full time drivers as a sixth punch. My union steward believes that this is allowed, but i have my doubts. Anyone have any info on this? Seems fishy to me.

What does the contract say about a 6th punch for drivers? Is it only a 5 day guarantee work week or a 6th day guarantee offering before using seasonals?

I guess we’re gonna find out

“In no event shall the implementation of this Section serve to dimin- ish the overtime opportunities for RPCDs not using the protections of Article 37, Section 1(c) as of September 1st of that year, or alter bid delivery area routes for RPCDs.”

Much ado has been made about not coming off the 9.5 list by September, if you want OT

I thought this pertained to SSD usage, not necessarily seasonal drivers in package cars.

Interesting. Any supplemental language that covers this scenario?

So did I, but the company reads it however they want.
They probably figured they can get away with just about anything for a few weeks.

Not to mention originally, our seasonals were hired Monday through Friday and they’ve been working the last two Saturdays now the company is saying they switched them to Tuesday through Saturday 🙄

Curiously when I brought this up to them and presented grievances they are now asking RPCDS if they want to work Saturday.

These seasonals that I’m referring to are not seasonal employees. They are part time employees that are driving seasonally, if that makes any difference.

We had numerous laid off drivers today, yet ran 4 PVDs and 6 helpers. I sent the laid of drivers the article, and sections in the national. But once again, it's up to them to file so we will see.
