Losing Walmart Account

I'm from Arkansas, there will be numerous job losses because of the walmart switch to FedEx We retained 50% of the volume from the Bentonville facility. Most of the swich was due from pricing, some was simply that walmart didn't want to give UPS the volume. We have lost many corporate accts. in arkansas based on decisions that are made out of state. The shipping dept. of the lost accts. never want to see the relationship break with UPS.My point is that we're getting beat by reasons other than service. The UPS personnel from acct. specialists to drivers are delivering. The accts. are being lost at a corporate level. Whether the reason is politics or economics, that is the true ''battelground'' not service. this has to be addressed by the Board of Directors and the founding familes or it can stop us. CJJohn

It's okay if we lose Wal-Mart. Let them get a good taste of the competition and before you know it they'll be back. Here in Florida, we lost Cracker Barrel for a few years and they came right back to us. I've also lost smaller accounts that have since returned. It's the law of reciprocity.

I would think that Walmart would use UPS, Fedex, and USPS to deliver their packages.
A shipping manager (not at Walmart) once told me that he made the decision to go exclusively with one carrier in order to get a discount. Word got back to his boss about his cost saving idea. The VP asked him "Are you trying to put this company out of business? We want everyone to shop here, not just employees of one truck line. I want you to use as many truck lines as possible."

I made the decision a while ago to not shop at Walmart, no matter how low their prices are.
If you think about it Fedex ground and Walmart treat their employees (or contractor's for Fedex), about the same. They probably admire each other very much.

LED, Good decision, all union employees should make that decision, let's support companies that support us!!:wink2:

Steve, it is NOT okay that we lose WalMart. Their ship to store has been a huge success for them and us as well and there were days during Peak when they were getting 150 or more pkgs daily.

You're right Upstate, it's NOT okay. The problem with that is, if we have already lost the account, why sweat it? If they've signed with an inferior company and expect them to do the great job we did, time will tell. You've been a driver long enough to see companies come and companies go. Why start freaking out about it now?

ok, now time for me. My Walmart was sending out used, stinky shoes. That people leave behind.
I didn't even know that, until Sommer hit, and my whole cargo stunk. Thought it was me, and couldn't believe the smell of stinky feet. It was gross.
One day, I told Walmart receiver, it's not me that stinks, it's something in my cargo..
She got a good laugh, because they ship out huge boxes of those left behind shoes.
According to her, they get sent back to China for recycling.

Now, if that was you or me, we could never afford to send old used shoes in a box to the next corner using UPS !

Walmart gets a hell of a deal , and I even wonder if it's all worth it.

Wherever I see Trump, it smells like he's Putin.
In many ways fedex ground in my area reminds me of the way ups was when i started in the late 80's. Guys driving around with their bulkhead open everywhere, radio blasting out loud tunes, drivers have kind of a "cowboy" mentality - less supervisory micro managing, more flexibility. I personally like the local one's here, but...

I don't really see them in the same professional light as ups drivers. I think that is reflected back in their service. Not that we're perfect, far from it, but the fact that they can get to most locations due to their low volume share and loose rule enforcement is a handicap of sorts to what I can provide in an early delivery. This is attractive to customers usually until they get larger shipments and they see a broader slice of the picture. More lost and damage claims, brash attitude and just a cut below where I see us.

That early delivery comes at a price. Like I said, I was that way myself at one time and so were most of my coworkers, but now I have to be better at everything else now because I cannot beat them in daily delivery times. No way, no how.

Wow, well at FedEx Express we are short staffed, we just got an announcement that we just got the Amazon.com account from UPS... I know all the Ground contractors are very busy. Should be interesting to get both Walmart and Amazon.com I know when I was at UPS 2 yrs ago Walmart filled a 500 daily(~100 pieces+) I hope Ground is ready for this.
Starting Monday FedEx Express is getting ready for a very crucial delivery, not sure if it has been announced(so I won't say), but they are all up in arms about it, making sure everything is perfect.

Meanwhile, at my building, we're test driving UPS's latest revenue stream. We are now delivering junk mail along with our house calls. I guess the next thing will be selling cigarettes out of the back of the truck....

Well...didn't want to make a thread more depressing but we've lost a major acct here too. This company Stanley Tools has been a long time shipper and has close to 50 pkgs a day Dom and Intl.

BD says along with price, ST is concerned about the damaged packages and our inablity to get multiple shipments together.

Sales said the whole pkg was sold, Express,Ground and Freight and the only thing I was to pick up on Monday is a whole pallet of our supplies.

I'm going to miss driving in the snow, that heavyweight gave me great traction.

I didn't want to mention it either, don't even know UPS realized it, yet.
But Homeoffice depot same thing, where I was delivering.
Got sick and tired of muilple shipments not comming in same day.
And, in a lot of cases were sent back.

They switched most of their shipments to Purolator and Fedex.

Wake up UPS !
Wasn't my fault, you can't have 3 packages going together in 1 shipment, and then sending 1 or 2 back, and the 3rd arrives next day !
(which had to be sent back, too).

I repeatedly told management to keep the uncompleted shipments on my truck.. that the next package would arrive next day - but they wouldn't listen - bring them to DCR... sure enough , they would vanish, be put aside somewhere else, or get sent back.

Your stupid mistake (center manager Edmonton South)...

Let's not forget about shopping for the customers. The customer will call a special 800 number and place their grocery order. It will then be sent to the driver who has that area that day. The driver has to go to the grocery store, pick out the specified items, stand in line to pay, and then deliver the groceries to the customer. And that driver BETTER be under nine five! The IE people say it's not a problem because most routes have super markets on them anyway. Shouldn't take that long...
