It’s closing in 1996, along with those of a number of other former local employers, caused many residents to seek employment outside the city for the first time. While its closure appeared to offer the space to bring many of those jobs back to, as well as a site for future housing development, suffered a setback when the housing market collapsed in 2008, causing lawsuits over previous contracts for development there.</p></blockquote><p></p>
