There is a UPS Teamsters Master Agreement with pages that cover PT handlers... But here are a couple benefits LOCKED in by the union for PT handlers... Minimum rate of pay... Annual pay raises... Health Insurance (paid by UPS) Minimum of 3 1/2 hours Paid break periods Overtime pay for working over five hours each day. Bid to full time driver from seniority list Paid Vacations... Option Days... And more... Before UPS fires you 90% of the time you will get a Warning letter first... Then if it needs to go further a few days/weeks/ months later you will get a Suspension letter... Then if it needs to go even further a few days/weeks/ months latter you will get a Termination letter... Of course being in the Union - you will feel UPS is wrong in suspending you and you will file a grievence... The you, Teamsters and management will have a meeting 10 days later or six months later to decide IF you will in fact be suspended... Same thing if you are issued a letter of termination... That is what the Union does for PT handlers... Now if you are caught stealing - chances are you will be fired on the spot and possibly placed in the back of a patrol car... I doubt you could grieve that and get your job back. However if you need legal assistance: http://www.teamster.org/benefits/tpriv/legalservice.htm
