Former GOP strategist Steve Schmidt pointed out that while a major share of the GOP base lies in rural America the problem for the GOP is that the population of rural America is decreasing in number and growing older. As a person who lives in a rural area I can certainly agree 100%. As a result the 2020 census might end up doing more to change the political landscape of the nation that the 2020 presidential election.
In the meantime while the GOP controlled Senate will have a very easy time confirming nominations for federal courts it's likely little else will be done from a legislative standpoint.

The Dems haven't put forth ANY ideas on how to improve the country in --- forever. All they have done is think of ways to bash Trump. I give Trump credit--at least he is trying.

The Bottom Line: While Americans were happy with their tax cut, they have seen rising healthcare costs. The GOP broke a 7-year promise on #ObamaCare. GOPe believed the polls, they choked & paid for it. 51% last night favored outright repeal or replacement. Marinate on that.
The key word is " replace". The GOP offered no replacement . Yea, we heard all about buying health insurance across state lines. In fact 6 states had already thrown open their health insurance markets to out of state insurers but no nobody took them up on the offer due primarily to startup costs and the competition that was already in place.

One of the reasons McCain cast the deciding vote against "repeal and replace" was due to the fact that it was all repeal and no replace.

If you believe that repealing the ACA would lower healthcare cost and lower premiums you would be very disappointed . The insurance company is not the provider of care. All it can do is to try to negotiate the best rate structure possible with the provider and the provider under the terms of it's charter and license cannot refuse to provide care on the basis of the patients inability to pay.

There are forces outside the control of the ACA that are drivers of increased costs. Costs associated with the development of new forms of treatment as well as uncompensated care are among them along with a growing population as well. These are just a few among many factors that are cost drivers over which the ACA has no control .
