The Europeans were much more advanced technologically. Whether they were morally superior is a matter of debate. And colonialism is imposing one group's authority over other groups to take one way advantage of their labor and resources for the benefit of the colonial power. The American born Europeans were also treated as second class citizens by their colonial power, England. They threw them out and then it wasn't a matter of colonialism settling west of the Appalachians. It was warfare with different tribes as the Americans moved westward. Now when you want to talk about European Colonialism around the world it varied as to how good it was. The Belgian Congo for example. The king of Belgium did little for the area but brutally suppressed the people while taking resources. The British on the other hand learned from their mistakes in America and started incorporating locals into the power structure and military. Set up courts. But ultimately the British colonists in those countries were at the top of the pyramid and the wealth of those countries flowed back to England. The Spanish ruled most of Latin America. Where are they now? Brutal policies spurred revolt. If you're going to argue that it was a great system and the Europeans rightfully ruled then why don't we have that today? The best thing about colonialism is it enabled the spread of Christianity. That was the single greatest pacifying force in history.
