Why would the company offer worse benes for the non union people? They're smarter than that. They'd wait until the union went bankrupt and then change the wage structure on everyone. It's an incentive for the company to offer the same wage. Greed rules in corporate land and the moment they can pounce, they just simply will. It's not rocket science. It's history repeating itself over and over again.

The future looks very good for ups. Record profits, aquisition of tnt, and potentially more work from post office once they go under or ups buys them. Something is def goin to happen with that....which will def make ups prosper even more. Plus you have any economy thats on it was to full recovery and growth. Theres no reason ups shouldnt give part timers a good contract in august.. No excuses.

Why in the world would UPS want to buy the USPS?

I do agree that there will be additional changes to Surepost which will benefit both the company and union in the next contract.

Why in the world would UPS want to buy the USPS?

No kidding.

It would be beyond stupid for UPS to buy the PO. Not only are they not profitable, buying the PO would make UPS the largest courier in the US. Currently Fed Ex has contracts with the PO that a buyer would be forced to honor. That could mean UPS people delivering Fed Ex packages. Not gonna happen.

An acquisition that would have made sense would have been UPS buying the Santa Fe Railway. Before their 'merger' with Burlington Northern, UPS was SF largest customer in terms of dollars. There were many industry experts that thought UPS could bring a new level of sort efficiency to railyards. On paper, it made a lot of sense.

On paper, buying the PO makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Suggesting it shows a lack of intelligence about the shipping industry.

what does it matter?

the members (union ) don't hold the company accountable for the present contract.
