Just the begining?
News as of 2/2/09 Raises have been cancelled for FT managment for the year. Does anyone know if this is nationwide or isolated areas?
Next will be stock bonuses.
Then what? Retirement medical?

I think this was expected and all in all could have been a lot worse. I think if we all accept the fact that we are in a troubling times this becomes more palatable. Look at Yellow, FedEx DHL.... Also look at the companies in your backyard. It seems like every MFG company is laying off and downsizing and not just the lower wage earners but the higher level managers.....

in my region...(not sure about nationwide) they told our management team that UPS will not be replacing any pt supervisors who quit or get fired until the economy gets better.

We keep lopping of driver's routes. How many levels of mgmnt can the man on the street support. We don't need 3 fulltime supes and a center manager to handle 41 routes. The word in today's world is be happy you have a job. I sure am. BM

a 41 car center should have 2 supes and a managers. Once you get into the 50's and 60's you should have 3.

p/t supes arent affected by the raise part..but everything else we are ( 401 k math etc )

Specialist level employees also are not affected by the merit increase freeze. Supervisors and above are getting the merit increase freeze. Also, all salary bands were frozen for management positions.

This is going to make organizing you all a cake walk! Join the teamsters were there is strength in numbers and every move the company does must be approved by you!

"Every mnod the companny does must be approved by you!" Red, aren't you exaggerating a bit. The mgmt committee runs the day to day operations of the companny. It's not the Teamsters!! Granted, there is a contract that gets signed by both sides, and needs to be lived up to for both sides. But, the idea that every move the company does needs teamster approval is rather misleading.

No its not misleading at all. As a union employee it is up to the union and the members to decide as in this case if they would take a wage freeze.

The union employees are still receiving this february's raise while the non union employees are taking a freeze and even losing their 401k match.

Now on to the employee stock payroll deduction, while management has to except it, we as union employees have a right to file a grievance on it because we nor did the teamsters agree to any concessions. And this is a concession on our part!

Yeah Mgmt is getting their pay frozen. It could be worse where Mgmt of Fed Ex took anywhere from a 5% to 20% pay cut.

Yes! it could be worse, they could be getting laid off like many hourlies and more to come, yet they are crying that union members are still getting their split raise this year. In fact they claim that ups and the union are talking about not giving the raise. Sour grapes! Would they rather be laid off, they are still working, still getting paid.

Now that i have seen that ups still profited 5.4 billion last year, i would vote against giving up any of my benefits. This is no time to ask for concessions from the back bone of this company!

Just think how much money ups paid out in wrongful termination grievances, sups working, not paying an employee his/her guarantee, and the list goes on. I have seen that ups will be cutting back in a lot of areas, i sure hope violating the contract will be one of these areas!

I wasn't surprised that the raises and such were cut, I don't think anyone at my building was. Were we disappointed? of course! who wouldn't be? I wasn't pissed that the union people still got theirs...its guaranteed by contract so of course they would. However, some others as you said took offense to hourlies getting a raise while they got left holding an empty bag. I still go and do my job just as I did the day before and the day before that.

Why would you have that attitude given that jobs are on the line? You may not realize this but this is not a Non-Union vs Union issue. This is a survival issue and something that effects us all. Not just one or the other.
Now is the time to pull together and put all our energy into gaining market share and competitor business. No Packages, no work for a lot of us. Nothing the Union alone or Management alone can do about this!!! It makes a lo of sense to me that a little willingness to sacrifice now will go a long way towards weathering this storm...and it is a storm!
