I'm sure you've seen the commercial of the Express customer telling the CSA how great it was to be his own boss. I find it a bit ironic that an Express employee is asking if he got a raise along with his new title and being told "management couldn't make that happen". FedEx' philosophy in a nutshell, and having an Express employee ask is almost a shot at the employees in general. Your take might be different, but it just struck me that way.

To me it is a stretch to apply that to Express employees.
Not at all. We are constantly bombarded with mgmt videos telling us how "the dedicated hourly employee is the great strength of fedex." But our compensation reflects anything but that view.
