On car sup/Driver Question

Technically no but why don't you cut the sup a break---he may be choosing the route he feels most comfortable with. Keep in mind that his work does not end when he parks the pkg car.

but if theres two of them they should get the route done twice as fast as the regular driver...street knowledge or not...thats what they expect from us during christmas with helpers...route done faster no matter the load....

Is this in the nat. master agreement, or in your local rider? I ask because I've never seen a sup take a PTer to jump for them.

Article 3 section 7 of the national agreement. It reads (in part)....."supervisors.....may only perform bargaining unit work until bargaining unit employees are available." If the center is short of drivers and a supervisor is taking a route out, there are hub and preload employees at the building who are "available."

Different local areas do have different procedures for determining who is entitled to the work. In our area, there is a sign up list for PT employees. A PT employee who rides with the supervisor as a "helper" is guranteed 8 hours at the driving rate of pay.
