I like how Ray Comfort talks about skydiving in this video after will smith recommended it.

"I heard of a girl in northern California she tried skydiving, she wasn't silly she took an instructor with her. When the parachute got twisted, her friends heard her screaming and when her body hit the ground they felt the ground shudder from 100 yards away."

It sounds like she was more interested in making a video than basic safety. I'm really surprised they didn't make her use a Sentinel (Automatic Activation Device that automatically deploys the parachute at preset altitude and speed). Especially for her first solo jump. I also have to wonder if she did enough training to solo jump on the first day. It is possible but when I started skydiving you had to make 5 static line jumps before you could attempt a freefall.
