Message: <blockquote data-quote="vantexan" data-source="post: 4602657" data-attributes="member: 24302"><p>No it means it's exempt from the estate tax.  It's already been taxed through income tax.  Which is why it's hated by those who have substantial amounts of money.  They increased the amount exempted because the lower amounts taxed were forcing heirs to sell the family business or farm in order to pay the estate tax.  A lot of people have equity in their business or farm but are cash poor.  They may get by fine but don't have enough cash lying around to pay a million dollars or more in estate tax.</p></blockquote><p></p>
