People are waking up!

This and related forums struck me as such a contrast to the attitudes I encountered at work. Here, most people are against the new conract. At work, most people said it stinks, yet most also said they were voting for it, for one reason or another.

Though I haven't taken any surveys, it seems like people's attitudes have been changing over the last few days. Today, nearly every person I talked to was angry about the contract.

When I got off work, a woman representing MakeUPSDeliver was standing outside handing out pamphlets. Most of the people she greeted seemed to be on her side. I asked how the shop stewards treated her, and she said all but one were supportive, or at least civil.

She and another guy liked my idea about acquiring T-shirts with political slogans. I made arrangements with a local store a few days ago to have some shirts printed. Now it looks like I'll one or more people to split the cost with me.

On the negative side, there are still a lot of employees who aren't even aware of the contract issue. Hopefully, we can rectify that in the next few days.

Solidarity!

Why not vote by withdrawing from your local? I know at least one driver isn't a member of local 174.

My concern is many drivers will vote yes because the Teamsters told them to. They won't read the proposed contract and decide for themselves.

The same can be said for followers of TDU/Makeupsdeliver. I would so much like for people to make decisions based on their own efforts and not be led around like sheep... no matter what side of the fence they fall on.

I agree, unfortunately many are unable to decide for themselves, they won't take the initiative to step out of the crowd and stand alone. Whether you agree with TDU/Makeupsdeliver or not, at least they are putting doubt into the minds of drivers about the contract and hopefully this will motivate them to find out more.

I would prefer they encourage discussion and discovery rather than instilling doubt. Instilling doubt seems encourage agreement with their side just as the Union encouraging members to vote the party line discourages individual decision making. Regardless of your feelings towards the union or it's detractors a person needs to be able to step back and make a decision with a neutral eye as much as that is possible.

believe 10 % of what you hear and 100 % of what you see and read, and use what we all still have left. Which is our minds and common sense!!!!!!!

He claims that his local isn't representing him. Put your dues where your mouth is. His local is not a Hoffa supporter, if all UPSers withdrew that local would be disolved.

You seem to think that "followers of TDU/Makeupsdeliver" are lemmings. In fact, there's a striking lack of information and opinions on the Internet regarding this proposed contract. The corporate media are being led around by the UPS/Teamsters coalition like sheep, so who else do people turn to?

BrownCafe.com would appear to be relatively unbiased, yet you seem unhappy with the fact that most people who frequent this forum are against the contract. It would appear that any time someone disagrees with you, you dismiss them as sheep. What a winning strategy.

All this rhetoric about "is it a good contract" or "is it a bad contract"....you have idiots on both sides of this issue and you have competent supporters on both sides.

What this forum needs is to begin a thread for each article in dispute. Copy and paste an article in its entirety in a thread, let everyone read it, see how many different perspectives you get, challenge each other to understand what is proposed and then place a poll at the end of the thread to see how many people support that particular article.

Stay away from wages and pension, this is NOT what is going to kill this contract overall.

Otherwise, this forum is turning into a pissing contest between part time sups & former employees without a clue :aka Rocky Road and current employees who really dont understand contractual limitations.

Turn this forum into a true blog and debate whats real and leave out the BS.

As long as sups are posting BS on these threads, no real conclusions will be discovered.

Peace.:thumbup1:

I agree with Brownshark. Pull out the major changes and issues, start a thread for debate and poll the viewers.

I had wondered about Rocky myself. What stake in all of this does he have? He claims to have moved on to greener pastures but I think he still has one foot stuck in the brown life.

This is a forum, not a blog.
All people that work for, or have worked for UPS are welcome.
This includes management, part-timers, full timers, union workers and scabs.
There is no conclusion that can be discovered, when you try and restrict a discussion between all concerned.
What you need to do is create a website/forum/blog, to address each article on it's merit.
You say, to stay away from pension discussion on voting this contract.
The pension is the main concern stated by teamsters and UPS surveys to get a bargain between both company and union.
This blitzkreig (upon BrownCafe) is tiresome, but endurable.

There are people on both sides who are sheep... once again if you actually read what I post you would understand my position.

Again, the way you put "words" in my mouth is amusing :)

I also notice you never answered my question - What group or organization that has interest in this contract are you affiliated with? Aside from being a UPS employee of course.

Hey Agitator...Being the all out socialist that you blog to be, why don't you call on the Gov't to stop the mailing and voting process?

My Advice to everybody is goto the Teamster website and donlaod the contract, look at it yourself, read every article andyou Decide for your self, not Liberty Bear or Agitator, I myself have read it over and over and am voting yes, I do not feel that turning this down is worth putting our pension at risk Jan 1st.
