Live updates: Plane crashes into Potomac River after collision with helicopter near Reagan National Airport
The latest news and live updates on the plane crash into the Potomac River.
I just read that over 60 people on the plane and 3 military members on the helicopterThey said it was a Blackhawk helicopter that crashed into the plane. It’s giving me flashbacks of the plane that crashed into the 14th St bridge in 1982.
Doesn’t sound goodI just read that over 60 people on the plane and 3 military members on the helicopter
ATC tried to warn the copter it but apparently they were on a different frequency. It sounds like it was 100% the copter pilots fault.I wonder if it was an ATC error? What do you think @Lineandinitial ?
There is a system called TCAS installed that alerts to possible collisions. It gets so congested in certain areas (DC, NYC, etc). It is “ignored”, so on some acft, the system downgrades below 1000 feet to an RA which instructs altitude only instructions. The inhibited TA is “ look for traffic and separate”. Kind of more complex than that.I wonder if it was an ATC error? What do you think @Lineandinitial ?
There have been many near misses at that airport recently. There is a system called TCAS installed that alerts to possible collisions. It gets so congested in certain areas (DC, NYC, etc). It is “ignored”, so on some acft, the system downgrades below 1000 feet.
Helo guys may have had night vision on that inhibits peripherals. ATC also sent them to a different runway. Multiple factors always add up.
RIP to all who perished![]()
The controller does sound like a DEI hire. Maybe not important but it does cause questions about competency.
My comments were initial speculation. Looks like several other factors like comms between ATC, helo and CRJ were askewThere have been many near misses at that airport recently.
The video that captured the impact showed a huge fireball and I really had serious doubts that anyone could’ve survived it last night.Plane had several members of the US figure skating team on board.
