Rehab and UPS!

You can add how what medications you are taking are none of their business and your medical information is protected by the HIPPA laws. How did they find out?

I used to work with a preloader who before he started at ups was in an outpatient drug program and while he started working at ups was still being prescribed suboxone. He didn’t have to do their rehab program. Did you tell management you have a drug problem?

No just that I was going to be late that morning because i was at my treatment specialist.

Sounds like you need to be in treatment

In '03 my son passed away. After that it took quite a while to get my head back together. Then I got robbed at gun point while at work and i didn't think that had that much of an effect but it ended up being a trigger to start drinking and then I had surgery and was pumped full of pills. Methadone sadly was the cheapest way out. Most don't get on methadone because they are admitting they have anything but a money problem.

Is it grounds for filing a grievance if they refuse to let me work Monday morning? One of the sups said that I couldn't work till i complete a treatment program. I don't get how after this long they can act like this.

Edit* it would be different if i was on something illegal or if I was walking around stoned.

MMT is a treatment program but they really don't do anything but give you your meds and give urine screens. There really isn't much more there.

Well hopefully whatever happens next will be a positive development and an off ramp from it for you. Sounds like your job isn't at risk but still have a steward present on Monday as a witness to what's said if nothing else.

I doubt it. Now that the Company knows you're on methadone, not forcing you to get treatment might open them up to all kinds of liability if you get hurt or accidentally hurt someone else on the job.

Yes I have a script. I guess that's the best thing i can do. I do appreciate the help.

Go to your doctor asap and get something saying it's a prescription. You're not a driver and not operating heavy machinery. I don't see where they can force you to take treatment when you are already being treated by a physician.

The office is closed Monday but I'm gonna take my bottle with me Monday morning. I'm gonna show up and clock in. After that they have to tell me to clock out and leave. I'm just glad I pay my dues!

If you take the bottle. Make sure nothing is in it. I wouldn't give them anything to hold against you.

Could you call the doctors office? I'm sure they have a emergency line. Tell them your work is going to fire you and could they fax or email you something as proof of treatment.

That's a good idea. I'm gonna get in touch with the owner. He's a nice guy. Thanks again.

The label on the bottle is proof it is a prescription. You aren't asking for sick time or trying to get workers comp, so the company should know better than to dig further than that. After you get that cleared up, talk to your doctor about getting off of it.

I would keep my personal issues personal at work in the future. Too many fake friends at ups. Do your job, handle your business and go home. No need to discuss with co-workers
