Bear found dumped at WCU with Obama signs

CULLOWHEE – A dead bear was found dumped this morning on the Western Carolina University campus, draped with a pair of Obama campaign signs, university police said.

Maintenance workers reported about 7:45 a.m. finding a 75-pound bear cub dumped at the roundabout near the Catamount statute at the entrance to campus, said Tom Johnson, chief of university police.
“It looked like it had been shot in the head as best we can tell. A couple of Obama campaign signs had been stapled together and stuck over its head,” Johnson said.
University police called in N.C. Wildlife Resources officials to remove the body and help in the investigation. Bear season is currently under way in Western North Carolina.
“This is certainly unacceptable,” Johnson said. “Someone was wanting to draw attention to the election. If we find out who they are, we’ll make sure they’ll get some attention themselves.”
"Western Carolina University deplores the inappropriate behavior that led to this troubling incident," said Leila Tvedt, associate vice chancellor "We cannot speculate on the motives of the people involved, nor who those people might be. Campus police are cooperating with authorities to investigate this matter."

I was talking about a specific act of metaphoric racism. I think everyone already knows McCain and Palin are desperate and calling OBAMA a socialist is a last ditch effort to get someone, anyones attention for longer than 2 seconds.

The concept of socialism is not a "black thang" as the article claims. Obama's "economic package" of redistributing the wealth(His words, not mine) is a long used socialist phrase.

There are (as Sober, I think, pointed out) extremists that hate blacks just because they are black, but that is not the republican party. The racist may vote repub, or libertarian or not at all, but to place blame on any party for this kind of senseless action is irresponsible and incorrect.
In all the debates, campaign ads that I have seen, the only time race has been brought up was by either Obama or his supporters. Sure enough, there are people out there that will not vote for Obama because he is black, but the other side of the coin is that there is just as many, if not more, that will vote for because he is black. Both are wrong.
I will not vote for Obama (duh), but it has nothing to do with his race, it's due to the fact his policies are indeed socialist in theory.

The mere fact that they must "repeat" it over and over and over on all avenues of talk radio and fox news is an example of brainwashing.

How many times do you have to say something for it to become real??

Talk radio knows that all they have to do is talk about the same topic everyday, make the same statements everyday, take calls from callers everyday about the same subject and before you know it, guys liek you are calling him a socialist.

The use of the word "socialist" is meant to have the listener connect it to the word communist.

Fortunately, there are thousands of people who are realizing that BUSH is the largest socialist of them all.

You are right about Bush being socialist but it's more on the Mussolini model whereas you demonrats are more a Fabian style. Both however being grounded in old world Europe autocratic society of elites ruling the masses. The part that really scares me is if Tie Socialist and TOS Socialist realize they are really the same and get together and breed, that the damage to the national gene pool would be so massive that american freedom and liberty would all but end for all time!

7 suspects interviewed, call WCU bear incident a prank, not political

10/21/2008 - Tom Johnson, Western Carolina University chief of police, is reporting that as of 4:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, Oct. 21) seven individuals – all of them students at WCU – had been identified as involved in the placement of the body of a dead bear that was found on the WCU campus at about 7:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20.

Authorities have interviewed most, but not all, of the seven individuals. Based on the information provided by those interviewed, authorities believe that the incident was not some sort of political statement, as had been the subject of speculation due to the fact that campaign signs in support of Barack Obama were found on the bear’s body, but was a prank.

According to interviews conducted so far, some students camping in a forested area off campus stumbled across the body of the bear while searching for firewood late Saturday night, Oct. 18.

The students put the bear, which had been shot, in the back of a pick-up truck and continued their camping trip. Those students arrived at a social gathering at The Summit, an off-campus residential complex, on Sunday night, Oct. 19, with the bear in the back of the truck, and struck up a conversation with other individuals about what to do with the animal.

One of the students suggested placing it at the base of the Catamount statue at the main entrance of campus. En route to campus, the students took random political signs to put over the bear’s head in an effort to cover the head wound and prevent blood from spilling into the bed of the truck. The students dumped the bear into the center of the roundabout at the entrance to campus at about 2:40 a.m. Monday, and returned to their apartment.

The students told Chief Johnson that their actions were not politically or racially motivated. One of the students involved in the incident is African-American.

At this time, no charges have been filed in the incident. Campus law enforcement officers and N.C. Wildlife Resources agents will discuss their findings with the District Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges would be appropriate.

The discussion with the DA will not take place until all perpetrators have been interviewed. Johnson notified the State Bureau of Investigation early in the investigation and has briefed the U.S. Secret Service throughout the process of the investigation.

Upon hearing of the findings of the interviews, Western Carolina University Chancellor John W. Bardo issued the following statement: “I am pleased to hear that this situation appears to be a stupid prank. I am disappointed in the extremely poor judgment demonstrated by these young people. I hope that this intolerable incident can serve as a learning moment for them and for others, one that reminds us that we must respect one another’s opinions and we should not jump to conclusions without first having all the facts.”

Sorry, just not reading the original post as a Republican racial issue, nor the follow up as posted on the website of Western Carolina University.

I would be willing to bet alcohol and drugs might have played a bigger roll with college kids camping in the woods. Who in their right mind would approach a bear to see if it was alive or not, put it in the back of the truck, and take it to their school property and display the poor thing with political signs? Animal House does come to mind.

Which if its such a racist area, why would there be Obama signs available in the first place?

First of all, I never said Bush is a Republican conservative, clearly he is not. However you haven't seen socialism as you will if you get your man in office.
I personally do not listen to talk radio so what they say is irrelevant to me. My opinion that Obama is a socialist in his theories was formed by listening to him in the debates. As he was explaining how he was going to reduce the tax burden on 95% of all Americans while seeing to it that the other 5% was taxed at a higher rate, it became obvious that he was a socialist. He cemented that idea for me when he said(paraphrased) "share the wealth". I also read on BHO's website, his proposed policies are .....yeh... socialist in theory.
By the nature of the American public we as a nation are inclined to help those who can not help themselves. I have a problem with those who WILL NOT help themselves because they are waiting on Uncle Sam to do it for them.
Rest assured as you go to bed tonight that your vote will be canceled out by mine. Sleep tight, don't let the Obama bugs bite.

Funny to me is that a week or so ago the Demos were all saying (in effect) "Don't look at Obama's record (documented facts), listen to what he says.", now they want us to look at the documented facts and forget what he said. LMAO....
