So it's still going to take them 20 years to top out even with the new pay progression. I know Express drivers can deliver up to 150lbs, but most of their packages are way less than that on average. UPS on average have heavier boxes because it's ground freight. Again, I'm talking on average. So a 20 year vet at UPS has lifted many times more very heavy boxes compared to an Express driver just because air freight is more expense to ship, so there's less of it. And yes RTD top out pay is from $28-$35 if you make it 10 years at the new pay progression or 20 some odd years under the old system. But what I'm saying is they should reach top out in 5 years instead of 10 just because there is a shortage of truck drivers and there's lots of other companies that will hire them. If Express wants to do away with their RTD shortage problem, then they need to do something to keep them-like top out in 5 years.
I based it on what a couple of very long time employees said. One has been at Express for 40yrs. A couple of them said it was 3 months to top out. It may not have been that way for very long though. Twenty years isn't anything official. It is based on the fact that employees who still work where I'm at told me it took them 20 years to top out. It's also based on the new pay progression at my location where 12 year employees are at step 2, 13 year employees are at step 3.
