You're not supposed to but people who preload with me wear tennis shoes all the time. As long as you don't wear them during an audit you'll probably be fine. Although you'll regret it when a 80+ pound box falls on your foot.

Not at my center. Shoes are checked whenever it's flavor of the week and supervisors do look.

You should want something more supportive/protective and slip resistant anyway. Don't want to fall off a catwalk or have your toes smashed.
